It's Been A While..

Since I first saw you..

Love that song. I'm posting on my own blog? What the..? Who..? Well, I have a few things to say.

Jesse Jackson. Take your pompous ass and sail off in to the sunset already. You've been irrelevant for years and now your just old and bitter. Go away. But, of course, you won't. Here we have the first black man in America with a legitimate chance to be elected President and leader of the free world. And Jesse drops the N bomb. Nice work you fricking idiot. Let's set race relations back to oh.. say.. 1964? How about one day before the Civil Rights Act was signed in to law?

I have a very close friend who has black blood running through his veins from a few generations ago. I was all fired up one Friday night and I e-mailed him about how I've heard the N bomb used more recently than any time since I was in high school. I went to a racially mixed school in a suburb of St. Louis and I can tell you that racial tension was a daily experience. The N bomb was commonly heard in a very unflattering tone. After graduating I went to college at the University of Missouri and then on to North Texas State University in Denton, now the University of North Texas. I had a black girlfriend there of sorts. We were very good friends and we would hang out together. One night we were out jogging and a car of people drove by. Someone in the car rolled down the window and yelled "N____lover!!" It had been a few years since I'd heard that and I was very shocked. Didn't faze my girlfriend a bit. She grew up hearing that crap.

How timely is it that one of black America's primary movers and shakers, a descendant of the civil rights movement and contemporary of Martin Luther King, Jr, decides to drop the N bomb on national tv. Very nice.

We have not come as far as I thought we had when it comes to race relations. In fact I'm not sure we've come very far at all. Apparently the rust was simply painted over. That's too bad.
